After Mayor Eric Adams’ announcement that he is ending his reelection campaign , Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa said, “Let’s get back to the race.”

“This gives us now 37 days and 37 nights, an opportunity to focus on the issues of the campaign, and not who is going to drop out,” he told NY1 political anchor Errol Louis in an exclusive interview on Sunday.

In 2021, he decided to run for office and became the Republican nominee for New York City mayor, unsuccessfully going head-to-head against Adams in the November general election.

“Remember, dealing with Eric Adams and Curtis Sliwa is like dealing with two scorpions in a brandy glass,” he said, adding that the last time he spoke to the mayor was on the debate stage in 2021. “I did not like this guy. I knew he was corrupt.
