MANCHESTER, N.H. —
The Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 4-3 on Sunday, clinching the No. 5 seed in the American League playoffs.
Boston will open the postseason in October against its longtime rival, the New York Yankees, at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

The three-game wild card series begins Tuesday, with games scheduled through Thursday if necessary. Each game is set to start shortly after 6 p.m.
This will be the sixth time the Red Sox and Yankees have met in the playoffs. The most recent came in the 2021 American League Wild Card Game, when Boston won 6-2 at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox went 9-4 against New York this season, including 5-2 at Yankee Stadium.
