CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - The Cherokee County Coroner's Office says a Gaffney man drowned in a farm pond in Blacksburg.
The victim was identified as 34-year-old Leron Lee Williams of Shelby Highway.
The coroner reported that William's and his 6-year-old son were on a small boat in a pond off Jones Street in Blacksburg around 6 p.m. According to the son, he and his dad were attempting to change seats when Williams fell into the water and did not surface.
The son jumped out of the boat and swam to shore to call for help. Williams was recovered from the water at 7:30 p.m., and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The coroner's office said he was not wearing a life preserver at the time of the incident.
This marks the first drowning in Cherokee County of 2025.
