The Cleveland Guardians pulled off an improbable comeback to win the American League Central over the Detroit Tigers, and now host their division rival in the best-of-three wild card series beginning Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Progressive Field.

Detroit led the AL Central by as many as 14 games in July and 11.5 games on Aug. 23, falling apart in September while the surging Guardians ran them down. Failing to win the division means the Tigers are on the road in the wild card series, a shocking turn for a team that always thought it would have a bye.

Tigers ace Tarik Skubal is expected to win the AL Cy Young award for the second consecutive season, posting a 2.21 ERA with 241 strikeouts across 31 starts in 2025.
