PHOENIX — The newly enacted Arizona law that cleared the way for Axon’s planned $1.3 billion headquarters in Scottsdale has hit a roadblock: a lawsuit filed by city residents seeks to strike down the law.

Attorneys for a Scottsdale citizens group that sought to put the Axon project to a citywide vote argue that the law violates the constitutional ban on “special legislation” that benefits specific groups or localities.

“It is about benefiting Axon. Among other evidence that this is so, when signing it the Governor called it the ‘Axon Bill.’”

Axon is a homegrown Arizona company that makes Tasers and other law enforcement equipment.
