MINEOLA, Texas (KETK) - East Texans got together for fun, food and community in Mineola on Saturday for their annual Iron Horse Heritage Festival.
The annual festival honors Mineola's origins from the railroads that came through East Texas and helped start the town in 1873. This year the festival featured live entertainment and several contests like weenie dog races, a watermelon eating contest and a pie baking contest.
"I'd never heard of Mineola. That's how I got here. So this kind of brings a whole new amount of people to Mineola. It brings people from Tyler, Longview and Dallas areas that have never heard of our town for brings them here," Mineola Chamber of Commerce manager Danielle Vance said. "So we absolutely love that.
