Many of the problems facing Starmer’s Government are self-inflicted. ‌

The initial policy of trying to take winter fuel payments from low income pensioners was a disaster. ‌

Proposing to cut benefits from disabled people made the Government look cruel. ‌

And the failure so far to secure the border and get a grip of illegal immigration has corroded trust.

But there is a path to a Starmer second term and he must urgently seize the moment. ‌

Voters are sick of being skint and they want bold Labour policies to help them cope with the cost-of-living crisis.

Making a huge dent on the backlog of NHS operations would be the second plank of a comeback strategy.

And ensuring the people who come to the UK from overseas are here legally is another must. ‌
