Links abounded, rumours swirled but in the end Daniel Farke was given Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Sean Longstaff, Anton Stach, Lucas Perri, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Noah Okafor and James Justin with whom to build a team he hopes will be capable of staying in the Premier League.

Clearly United didn't get their man every time, no club does, and there remain several players who came close but didn't quite make it to Elland Road.
