La Casa hosted “ Piñatas y Banderas ” Thursday evening as part of the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs’ Latine Heritage Month festivities. About 145 students gathered in the Trotter Multicultural Center to make piñatas at tables supplied with materials such as balloons, glue, newspapers and construction paper inspired by the colors of Latin American flags. Attendees also enjoyed conchas — Mexican sweet bread — along with tacos and pizza as part of the celebration.
In an interview with The Michigan Daily, LSA senior Elena Fernandez, La Casa co-internal director, said the community-building aspect of events like “Piñatas y Banderas” is the most impactful to her.
“I just love seeing the genuine friendships being made and having a good activity for people of Color to come to,”
