The Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office says it arrested a suspect who sent a death threat over text message to the campaign of Del. Kim Taylor, R-Dinwiddie.

Deputies arrested Michael Ray Strawmeyer, a 33-year-old Dinwiddie County resident, at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office. He is being held without bond at Meherrin River Regional Jail in Alberta.

Taylor, a delegate since 2022 who is running for reelection, said in a statement that she is safe and grateful for law enforcement’s swift action.

Politicians from both parties swiftly condemned the threat of violence.

House Minority Leader Terry Kilgore, R-Scott, said in a statement: “This kind of dangerous rhetoric has no place in Virginia politics.”
