This is not new. But it is also not known as much as it should be. So, a quick recap. In 2023, the Indian IT Ministry launched a competition to develop an indigenous web browser. The competition was called Indian Web Browser Development Challenge and the idea was “to encourage the design, and development of an Indian Web Browser for major devices and platforms.” Essentially, the government said that come and create something that could replace Chrome or Firefox for Indian users.
