Those who work in the skilled trades are asking the three leaders in the provincial election their position on the Bay du Nord project and benefits for the local workforce.

No decisions have yet been made on the deep-water project, which was put on hold by Equinor, the lead company, a couple of years ago.

Bob Fiander, the executive director of the Skilled Trades NL, says they want a significant portion of the topsides work done in this province. He sees no reason why 70 per cent of that aspect of it can’t be done here.

So far, only PC Tony Wakeham has responded, saying he agrees with that position and would make it happen.

Fiander says most of the construction work on an offshore development in Norway which began production last March was done in the host country.
