Deoria, Sep 29 (UNI) Three youths are feared to have drowned in the Saryu River in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district while collecting water for a religious ritual, an administrative official confirmed today.
According to Barhaj Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vipin Dwivedi, the incident occurred near Narchua village, where an idol of Goddess Durga had been installed as part of ongoing festivities.
The youths had gone to the river to fill kalash (sacred vessels) when they reportedly went missing in the water. Rescue operations are currently underway.
“At around 10 am, while filling water from the Saryu River at Gaura Ghat in Barhaj, Vivek Kumar (19), Ranjeet (16), Shekhar (15) and Ganguly (15) slipped into deep water and started drowning.”
