The Assam government has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to invoke the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore to assist in the ongoing probe into superstar Zubeen Garg’s death in Singapore, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said.
Garg died on September 19 in Singapore, when he was to participate in the North East India Festival. He reportedly experienced breathing troubles while swimming during an outing on a yacht there, and the certificate of death issued by Singapore authorities recorded the condition leading to death as “drowning”.
Following this, a Special Investigation Team in Assam began investigating a case in connection with his death, which the CID registered against the festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharm
