A childcare centre in Sydney's south-west has been closed down immediately, with an investigation underway into concerns about children's safety.

The NSW childcare regulator said it was looking into a number of "serious incidents" alleged to have occurred at Jenny's Kindergarten and Early Learning Centre in Gregory Hills.

It said that in its view these incidents exposed children to "unacceptable risk" and that it has "taken immediate action to address those risks".

The ABC understands the centre has been shut down with the provider's licence suspended.
