The capital city has received some federal funding for the continuation of a public health initiative focused on ways to improve services for those who face a variety of barriers.

The program was developed in partnership with NL Health Services, First Light and several city advisory committees.

The federal government is providing close to $250,000 to the city through the Public Health Agency.

Policy Equity Associate with the City of St. John’s, Sal Matthews, says they’re looking specifically at how programs and services influence the social determinants of health.

She says it’s a two-year project to develop ways to assess how municipal policies affect those who might have trouble accessing city programs and services.
