Following the Mets’ season-ending loss in Miami yesterday afternoon, Pete Alonso told reporters that he’d be opting out of his contract, a two-year, $54 million deal that included the opt-out after the first season. Given the season he had at the plate in 2025, the news really comes as no surprise.

Over the course of 709 plate appearances, Alonso hit .272/.347/.524 with 38 home runs and a 141 wRC+. While even his worst seasons at the plate were still comfortably above league average, it was a return to form of sorts for Alonso, who had a 141 wRC+ in 2022 and a cumulative 137 wRC+ from the 2019 through 2022.
