A suspect being pursued by police after being caught stealing from vehicles was hit by a truck while crossing the Maine Turnpike on foot on Sunday night.

Maine State Police said they received a call around 8:30 p.m. Sunday from Portland police, who had been contacted by a truck driver who said he believed he might have hit a pedestrian on the Maine Turnpike.

The truck driver told police he originally thought he had struck a deer in the northbond lane in Biddeford. After reviewing his in-truck camera, he called police to report that he had actually hit a pedestrian who was running across the highway.
