President Donald Trump will meet with congressional leaders to try to avoid a federal government shutdown and Maryland lawmakers are watching closely.

Maryland Rep. Johnny Olszewski spoke Friday with WBAL’s Robert Lang. He is proposing legislation to bar the Trump administration from firing workers if there is a shutdown.

“We certainly don’t want to see a shutdown. It’s why I’ll be in D.C., Monday and Tuesday ready to be at the table, ready to take votes to avoid the hurt and the suffering that’s associated with a shutdown,” Olszewski said.

Republicans want a spending bill with no amendments. Democrats are pushing for an extension of the Obamacare subsidies that run out at the end of the year.
