PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A suspect as died after a police shooting in north Phoenix on Sunday.
The incident happened near 32nd Avenue and Bell Road. Officers responded to reports of a man who was pointing a gun at himself and fired the gun inside his apartment.
Police evacuated the nearby apartments, surrounded the man’s unit and attempted to negotiate with him for several hours.
Phoenix PD says around 3:45 p.m., the man came out of the apartment with the gun. Special Assignments Unit (SAU) officers commanded that he drop the gun, which he did not, leading to the officer-involved shooting.
Police say the suspect involved in the incident was shot and taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. He has not yet been publicly identified.
