As the sun rose in Grand Blanc Township this morning, the police barricade around the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on McCandlish Road had narrowed to about 100 yards.

A shooting attack on the church left at least five dead , including the gunman, and investigators continued to search for answers, including what would have driven someone to commit violence.

Eight more were injured and are being treated at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital.
