The Assam government has formally requested the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to invoke the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore in connection with the death of singer Zubeen Garg.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the move on social media, stating that MLAT assistance would enable cooperation from Singaporean authorities. This, he said, would help access case details and bring those responsible to justice.

The request follows a police complaint filed by Zubeen Garg’s family on Saturday. The complaint, lodged with Assam police, was signed by his wife Garima, sister Palmi Borthakur and uncle Manoj Borthakur. It named Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen Garg’s manager, as the primary suspects.
