President Donald Trump announced on Sept. 25 that the U.S. will impose a 100% tariff on branded or patented pharmaceutical products that enter the country starting Oct 1. But Eli Lilly, one of Indianapolis' largest employer and one of the biggest drugmakers in the world, appears to be safe for the time being due to an exemption.

Trump said the tariff will not apply to drug manufacturers who have committed to building production plants in the United States in a Truth Social post on Sept. 25 .
