DENVER (KDVR) -- Coloradans are buckling up more than ever before, but it's still below the national average, and the Colorado Department of Transportation wants more people to use their seatbelts.

CDOT conducted the survey earlier this year, observing 106,087 vehicles at 744 different locations across the state during a two-week period in June.

The 2025 seat belt survey found Colorado's seat belt use rate to be 90.7%, up 2.5% from last year and the highest ever recorded for the state.

Seat belt usage has been improving across the state over recent years, inching closer to the national average. Since 2015, rates have increased 5.5% from 85.2%.

Last year, the national seat belt use rate sat at 91.2%, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
