CLEVELAND, Ohio – Chipotle Mexican Grill’s new red chimichurri sauce launches Tuesday, Sept. 30. I got a sneak peek, and I’m fan.

If you’re a Chipotle Rewards member, you can try it for free on launch day. And you should.

For those just meeting the sauce, chimichurri is an uncooked herb sauce from Argentinian cuisine typically served with roasted meat. Chipotle makes it fresh daily with citrus juice, red wine vinegar, cilantro, garlic, salt, guajillo chili peppers, chili peppers and sunflower oil.

I googled recipes and saw that many call for olive oil, not sunflower oil. So, I dug into my carnitas bowl with a bit of skepticism.

I was pleasantly surprised. The sunflower oil allows the roasted garlic and especially the chili peppers to shine through.
