The Congress party on Monday appointed former minister Rao Narender Singh as the new president of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC). The party also named Bhupinder Singh Hooda as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Haryana.

Rao Narender Singh replaces Udai Bhan, who was appointed president of the state unit in April 2022. He is the former Health Minister of Haryana and hails from Narnaul. In the statement, the party expressed appreciation for the contributions of outgoing PCC President Udai Bhan.

With these appointments, the long-standing arrangement of having a Jat leader as CLP head and a Dalit leader as PCC chief in Haryana has been changed after 20 years.
