The Monroe Public Safety Department is seeking assistance in the investigation of a stabbing that occurred on Sunday morning, Sept. 28.

Officers were dispatched to Promedica Monroe Regional Hospital emergency room for a 54-year-old man from the Monroe area shortly before 3:30 a.m. The man had been admitted with stab wounds to his upper back and torso.

Preliminary information indicated that the victim had left his residence and was near a cemetery, using a flashlight, when he was approached by an acquaintance displaying neck tattoos and wearing a black shirt. According to the victim, the man attacked him unprovoked. Following a brief struggle on the ground, the assailant fled the scene, after which the victim realized he'd been stabbed.
