Oregon filed a lawsuit Sunday seeking to block President Donald Trump’s efforts to send National Guard members to Portland after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the deployment of 200 of the state’s troops for 60 days.

Hegseth’s plan became clear in a memo dated Sunday, and comes a day after Trump vowed to send troops to Portland and to immigration detention facilities around the country.

The 200 members of the Oregon National Guard activated are expected to support those plans, according to Hegseth’s memo. It is not clear how soon the troops will be showing up in Portland, but Hegseth cited the same authority used to deploy the National Guard in Los Angeles this summer.
