An 18-year-old driver of a vehicle suspected of fleeing a traffic stop a couple nights prior was not so lucky the second time around, despite allegedly leading police on a chase topping 130 mph, according to the arrest report.

Porter County police say officers were able to finally stop Derek Barnett, of Michigan City, by placing devices in the roadway to puncture his tires.

He was taken into custody early Thursday and is charged with resisting law enforcement using a vehicle, invasion of privacy and reckless driving, records show.

A county officer said he was patrolling when around 1 a.m. Thursday he was notified by a license plate recognition system of a vehicle suspected of fleeing from a traffic stop two nights prior.
