CINCINNATI (WXIX) - The man accused of starting a shootout with police inside a Greater Cincinnati Kroger store in 2024 has taken a plea deal in the case.
Joseph Van Niman pleaded guilty to four counts of felonious assault, one with a gun specification charge, according to Hamilton County court records.
Van Niman was sentenced to 9-12 years, but is getting credit for 475 days already served.
He was originally charged with three counts of attempted murder, five counts of felonious assault, and one count each of carrying concealed weapons, having weapons under disability, possession of criminal tools and inducing panic.
