PITTSFIELD, Maine (WABI) - A Pittsfield man is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities say he sexually assaulted a dog.

Christopher Colson, 24, is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and cruelty animals.

Pittsfield Police say on Sept. 18, the Pittsfield Animal Control Officer was called to Home Town Veterinary in Fairfield for a dog that had been sexually assaulted and was paralyzed.

The Morning Sentinel reports that according to court records, the dog had to be euthanized.

Colson was taken to the Somerset County Jail where his bail was set at $1,000.
