Portland police have arrested a man in the fatal stabbing of another man Sunday afternoon at Dawson Park in North Portland.

Jermaine D. McKenzie, 50, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center and charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon, the Portland Police Bureau said Monday.

In 2019, McKenzie was convicted of attempting to commit a class C felony and second-degree bias crime.

On Sunday, officers arrived at the park in the 2900 block of North Williams Avenue about 1:15 p.m. after reports of a stabbing and a shot fired, police said. Witnesses took the victim to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, where he died.

North Williams Avenue between Northeast Stanton and Morris streets and Dawson Park were closed for several hours Sunday while police investigated.
