"Wheel of Fortune’s" first $100,000 winner of the season was a Newton-Conover Middle School teacher.

Cory Earp, an English language arts teacher, won $126,000 on the game show episode that aired Sept. 19. Earp was on during the show’s celebration of teachers called “Teacher’s Week.”

The show was filmed earlier and Earp was able to watch the episode with friends and family in Taylorsville.

“I’ve watched the show my whole life, but in those three weeks between knowing I was going to be on and actually flying out, I watched a LOT of episodes, especially to practice the toss-ups,” Earp said. “I also wrote partially filled-in words into a notebook, choosing words that I expected I could potentially see on the show.”
