A large fire struck a barn in Westminster on Sunday sending one person to the hospital and leaving four horses dead.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal around 1 p.m., crews responded to a reported barn fire at 26 Bell Road in Westminster. They found a fire coming from inside the barn and three people who were injured. One person was taken to a hospital for treatment of a first-degree burn to his hand while the other two people were treated at the scene and refused hospital treatment.

An investigation confirmed that four horses died in the fire and the cause is unknown at this time. The State Fire Marshal estimates $250,000 in damages and losses and the fire took around two hours to get under control.
