GRAND BLANC TWP, MI – Diana Rushlow and her husband were just finishing up breakfast on a quiet Sunday morning when they started to hear a noise outside their Grand Blanc Township home.

At first, she said they believed it was firecrackers being set off to try and chase off pesky geese in the neighborhood.

One pop.

A couple of seconds later, another pop.

“Then it erupted into so many gunshots, we don’t even remember how many, probably about sixty,” she said while walking her dog on Monday morning in the Holly Hills subdivision.

The subdivision, with tidy lawns and lawn ornaments outside many homes, sits across McCandlish Road from where police say 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford shot 10 people inside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and set the building on fire .
