GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, MI – U.S. Sen. Gary Peters took to the Senate Floor on Monday, Sept. 29 to thank the brave law enforcement personnel who responded to the shooting at the Church of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township.

Peters, who spoke for about six minutes , said the community experienced an act of “unimaginable violence” when a gunman drove his car into the church, opened fire and set the place of worship ablaze on Sunday, Sept. 28. Four people were killed in the attack and the suspect also died following an exchange of gunfire with police. Eight others sustained injuries, but were expected to recover.

“It was shocking. It was horrific. And it was a violent attack on a quiet and peaceful community,” Peters said. “There are now families whose loved ones will never return
