(Gray News) - President Donald Trump has announced 100% tariffs on movies made outside of the United States.
In a social media post on Monday, Trump announced plans to impose a 100% tariff “on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States.”
In the post, Trump singled out California, saying the state “has been particularly hard hit!”
There is no word about when or how the tariffs will be enacted, but it would be the first time Trump has threatened to place a tariff on a service rather than a good.
Earlier this year, Trump said that other countries have offered tax incentives that have drawn filmmakers abroad, which has, in turn, hurt the U.S.
At least one industry analyst told CNN that a tariff like this would be too tough to enforce.
