Mattydale, N.Y. — A man suspected of killing a store clerk at a Mattydale convenience store on Sunday took his own life when officers tried to arrest him, deputies said.
A store clerk at Mattydale Express was shot multiple times after confronting a shoplifter at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Thomas Newton, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
The clerk killed was Emad Alharbi, 31, Newton said.
The shooter, Alec Greiger, 30, of Mattydale, later committed suicide when deputies arrived at his home to arrest him, Newton said. Greiger lives in the 200 block of Mitchell Avenue, about six blocks from the store at 2107 Brewerton Road.
