LAKE COUNTY, Ohio — A man is dead after a SWAT standoff in Painesville Township on Sunday evening, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a home on Coventry Drive at around 5:47 p.m. on Sept. 28 after receiving reports of shots fired inside the residence, Chief Deputy Robert Izzo said in a press release.

The initial report indicated that a resident fired multiple rounds and shot two dogs during an argument with a family member. Deputies said the family member was able to escape unharmed with one of the injured dogs.

The man barricaded himself inside the home and deputies were unable to make contact. Authorities said they believed a second dog was dead inside.
