DES MOINES, Iowa —
Just under $10 million will go towards mitigating forever chemicals, or PFAS, in central Iowa's water sources.
They've been linked to increased risks of cancer, reproductive issues, and pregnancy complications, among other things. As for where the chemicals and the money came from, Des Moines Water Works joined a class action lawsuit against 3M, claiming their water system has been impacted by PFAS they manufactured.
In July, Des Moines Water Works found out they'd be awarded $9.7 million.
