Human remains found by a fisherman on Flathead Lake last week are being sent to the Montana State Crime Lab for examination.

Investigators responded to a 911 call from a fisherman who reported finding the remains near the Wildhorse Island area on Sept. 26, according to a press release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

"The calling party reported reeling in bones with clothing attached to them in an area southeast of Wildhorse Island," the release said, adding the remains appeared to have been in the lake for "some time."

The remains were sent to the crime lab and the area where they were found will be investigated further, according to the sheriff's office.
