Red Wings getting a good look at Finnie in van Riemsdyk’s absence

DETROIT – James van Riemsdyk has missed all of Detroit Red Wings training camp, half of the preseason and a lot of practices, and there’s no telling when he’ll join his new team.

His absence (his wife is expecting) might cause him to miss the start of the regular season on Oct. 9.
