How did your journey in the Tamil film industry begin? I never intended to join the film industry as I had a high-paying job at an imports and exports company. I knew director C V Sridhar from Class V to SSLC in Chengalpattu. One day, he came to me with a proposition that took me by surprise. It was 1959, and Sridhar was planning the film ‘Kalyana Parisu’. I told him I had a job that paid me 200, and didn’t want to jeopardise it in any way, but Sridhar offered me 500 and encouraged me to step out of that routine life. I agreed to write the comedy portions of the film, played by K A Thangavelu and M Saroja. The backstory of the character Bhairavan, played by Thangavelu, was inspired by a real-life incident.
