SIOUX CITY — The Woodbury County Law Enforcement Center over the weekend held the man who is, at least for the time being, the highest profile inmate in the state, and the center of a political firestorm: The superintendent of the Des Moines public school system.
The jail was barricaded during the weekend and protestors who showed up Saturday were told not to cross the barriers. Officers were posted on the roof of the building and a rifle scope could be seen peeking out toward demonstrators.
About 30 or so people showed up at the jail Saturday afternoon to show support for Ian Roberts, the head of Iowa’s largest school district, who was arrested Friday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and held in the jail.
