STATEWIDE -- Thousands of Maine residents will be getting help with their winter electricity bills.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services will mail more than 67 thousand letters to those who qualify for the Maine Public Utilities Commission’s low income assistance program or LIAP.

The program helps homeowners and renters reduce their electricity costs through monthly bill credits.

Those letters should begin arriving in mailboxes this week.

If you get a letter you only need to show it to your utility provider to automatically receive LIAP benefits.

Those who are already enrolled in fuel assistance will automatically be enrolled in LIAP.
