Pat Narduzzi said he was looking for “a spark” when Pitt turned to backup quarterback Cole Gonzales late in the fourth quarter of last Saturday’s 34-27 loss to Louisville at Acrisure Stadium. But benching starter Eli Holstein doesn’t necessarily mean the Panthers will be searching for a new starter this week as they prepare to host Boston College, Narduzzi said.

He declined to comment on whether Pitt is giving any consideration to starting either the second-string Gonzalez or true freshman Mason Heinstchel, the third-stringer on the depth chart, this week when the Eagles visit town. And he was purposefully vague discussing what he wanted to do with the quarterback situation after making such a major decision on Saturday.
