Algoma Central Corp . sailed into the record books last week as it took delivery of its 100th vessel — the Algoma Legacy.
In a news release, the St. Catharines-based company said the methanol-ready Kamsarmax-sized self-unloading cargo ship joined the CSL International Pool — the world’s largest fleet of ocean self-unloaders, co-owned by Montreal-based CSL Group and Algoma.
Two sister ships are scheduled for delivery in 2026 and early 2027. The next-generation vessels will replace the pool’s three oldest ships and are expected to be 40 per cent more efficient, thanks to improved fuel economy and optimized cargo capacity.
Algoma and CSL also operate separate domestic cargo vessels on the Great Lakes.
