Just days after Via Rail announced a three-month pilot project that would have halted service in Kingston, Brockville, Belleville and Cornwall, the crown corporation has announced that it is postponing the plan due to “operational constraints.”

The project was initially launched to test demand for faster travel between Montreal and Toronto. It was to impact Via Rail trains 60, 61, 68 and 69.

“Via Rail Canada regrets to announce that the planned pilot project for a direct Montréal–Toronto service, scheduled to launch on September 29, has been postponed due to operational constraints with our rail partner, CN,” read a statement supplied by Via Rail Monday.
