That is how Northern Iowa football coach Todd Stepsis described the Panthers' bye week.

Following a 20-6 loss at Utah Tech Sept. 20, in which UNI committed double-digit penalties for the second straight game, getting back to the basics was a point of emphasis.

“We did some good against good, high intensity work there,” Stepsis said. “We were able to keep guys healthy, manage reps and loads for some guys that had played a lot.

“But you know, we went back to the fundamentals…we had a little bit more individual time just to work on some of the things that have cost us these last couple of games really from a penalties perspective.”
