MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's basketball team is shaking up the coaching staff, saying goodbye to a familiar face and welcoming another home.

Kirk Penney, who played for the Badgers from 1999 to 2003 and spent the last two seasons as a special assistant, is returning to New Zealand to prioritize his family.

"[Penney] is a legend of this program and it was fun to see him extend the impact he had as a player to then a coaching role," Badgers head coach Greg Gard said. "As a father and husband myself, I fully understand the importance of being present with your spouse and young kids, which quite frankly, is a non-negotiable in the game of life."
